Android 2.3 Gingerbread Upgrade For Htc Desire Download

Posted on  by

Hello HTC Desire users, the first day of the new month has brought a great piece of news for you — it’s about Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which is now available for you to download and install manually. Nah, no Over-the-air (OTA) update this time but let’s be thankful to HTC to at least make this update available — but let’s keep this contention too, after all, even the X10 has got its share of Gingerbread now, and so as the Galaxy S (which has the best of them all and first of them all too, Android 2.3.4).

HTC has finally launched an official Desire Gingerbread update, which will update the HTC Desire to Android 2.3.3. There's a pretty big catch, though. This is not your traditional 'over the air. Dec 28, 2010  It's possible since the Desire was released less than a year ago. However, it probably won't be a priority because HTC will want to focus on developing Sense with 2.3 for its newer devices (Desire.

Anyways, even further good news is that in order to make the Gingerbread update even possible on Bravo (that’s Desire’s codename), HTC removed almost all the bloatware apps it’s used to bundling with Android. So, it should run faster than the opposite case – with all the HTC apps atop it. Sense is pretty limited too, which is also great you know.

To download the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update on your HTC Desire, go here, click download, agree to terms and let the download begin.

But this update isn’t meant for Desire phones all over the world. Users in Germany (Deutsch Telekom), North America, South America, South Korea and japan have been left wishing for now. The daring souls form these countries may still go on and install it (since it’s manual download and install via RUU – nobody’s knowing and stopping anyone), but users of those countries should be prepared to say goodbye to SMS and MMS functions of the mobile phone if trying this.

Plus, HTC recommends only the expert users to install it manually since it’s or developers only. But we know you, if you’re reading this, you’re in fact an an expert fella and would leave no stone unturned in getting the long-awaited Android 2.3 experience, now that it’s officially available.

Step-by-step Guide:

Gingerbread

Well, it’s pretty easy to update using a RUU. But, here’s an instruction set for those who crave for it.

  1. Go here, click download, agree to terms and let the download begin.
  2. Do necessary backup of your phone since data will get lost and Apps will get removed along with data by the time you hug Gingerbread. This backup guide will help you. And if you’ve a rooted HTC Desire, titanium backup is the best app to take care of everything. Oh, I forgot, but you can use HTC Sync too to transfer the important data to PC and anyway, sync the contacts to Google contacts via accounts and sync in settings.
  3. Double click the downloaded RUU file. This will cause the HTC’s file to extract the relevant content in the temp directory, after which installation process would begin. You have to just wait till it pops up.
  4. When the screen shows up, just follow and keep following the the instructions to update the HTC Desire to official Android 2.3 build.
